Results from the 2016 Associated Students Election

Voting for the 2016 AS elections took place online from April 4 through 8, closing at 4 p.m.

All candidates had to receive above 20 percent of the vote for to be considered a win, meaning that abstentions can prevent a candidate from winning, even when running unopposed. In this year’s election, 5882 students voted.

In some cases, the vote count came down extremely close to the wire: Incoming Arts and Humanities Senator Alexis Eubank won by 12 votes votes and Biological Sciences Senator Christy Olds won by only 20 votes.

This year’s election also included one referendum for an increase in campus activities fees to be allocated for campus programs.

After all grievances had been settled and results were verified, announcements were made as per tradition in Price Center outside of Round Table Pizza. For candidates running unopposed, The Triton has included the number of abstention ballots.
