Protests erupt at UCSD in response to election results

UCSD students marched throughout Muir, Revelle, and Warren Colleges chanting “Fuck Donald Trump” and “Not My President” in response to the results of the 2016 presidential election at approximately 12 a.m. Nov 9. Estimated numbers ranged from several hundred to thousands of protesters.

“Trump does not represent me. I am not a racist. I am not a rapist. I do not grab women by the pussy. I am a Mexican American. He should not be our president,” said Valerie Garcia, a first year Revelle College student marching with other protestors.

On campus markets were locked and shut down during the protests. The crowd is continued through campus towards Roosevelt residential halls and the Village.

Protestors then marched off campus and on to the I-5 freeway in San Diego. There were reports of at least one injury, after a protestor was hit by a car. Ambulances were called on to the scene at 1:45 a.m.

The march returned to campus and the crowd dispersed at approximately 2 a.m. on Nov 9. Similar protests erupted at other University of California schools, including UCLA, as reported by The Daily Bruin, and UC Berkeley, as reported by The Daily Californian.
