Coffee Cart Arson Suspect Pleads Not Guilty

A woman accused of setting fire to four UCSD Fairbanks coffee kiosks on campus late last Sunday pleaded not guilty in court today, according to Times of San Diego.

Police and fire crews initially responded to the cart in the Social Sciences Building, then received news that the carts in Center Hall, Warren Mall, and Revelle Plaza were also on fire. The fires caused around $5,000 in damages to each cart and around $2000 to the contents, fire officials said.

Kay Lyn Williamson, 30, was arrested at 10:41 p.m. on Monday, April 17th, according to the UCSD Police Crime Logs. UCSD Police said that they have no reason to believe there are any outstanding suspects.

Williamson is being held on bail of $150,000 and has been ordered to stay away from the UCSD campus if she can make bail.

When asked by judge Lisa Rodriguez if Williamson understood that she would not be allowed on campus even if she makes bail, she said “Do you understand that I’m the acting President of the United States of America, right now?” Williamson was then escorted out of the courtroom.

If convicted, she faces up to ten years in prison.
