Al Gore to Speak to UCSD Students via Live Stream

Former Vice President Al Gore will speak to students via webcast in Price Center Theatre on Oct. 26 at 3:30 p.m. for John Muir College’s 50th anniversary, the college announced today. UC San Diego will be one of several colleges around the country to participate in a live Q&A session with Gore and screening of his new film, An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power.

Released on July 28, 2017, the film is a sequel to 2006’s An Inconvenient Truth, in which filmmaker Davis Guggenheim follows Gore as he tours the world speaking about the dangers of climate change. The sequel, filmed while Gore gives the same, but updated, presentation, seeks to fill the gap between what has happened since the first film’s release in 2006 and now.

The one-time Presidential nominee has dedicated his career to advocating for policy solutions to climate change and training affected communities to be their own advocates. In 2007, the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Gore and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which included two dozen Scripps Institution of Oceanography scientists including Dr. Veerabhadran Ramanathan, the current director of the Center for Atmospheric Sciences.

In conjunction with the college, the UC San Diego Student Sustainability Collective will host the screening and live webcast session. If you are interested in having your questions answered during the Q&A, email them to the event organizer, Joseph Villegas, at j1villegas@ucsd.edu by Oct. 20th using this template: “My name is (NAME), I’m a (GRADE LEVEL) at UC San Diego in La Jolla, California. Former Vice President, (INSERT QUESTION)?”
