ASUCSD Vice President of Campus Affairs to Resign

Associated Students of UCSD (ASUCSD) Vice President of Campus Affairs, Matthew Arrollado, announced his resignation Friday morning, effective immediately upon the appointment of his successor.

I want to apologize to all members of the UCSD community who have put their faith in me to run the Office of Campus Affairs,” said Arrollado this morning in his notice of resignation on Jan. 19. “I do not believe that I am able to serve the student body to the best of my abilities and [I believe] that another student on this campus will be able to fill the position of Vice President in lieu of myself.”

In Spring 2017, Matthew Arrollado ran on the Thrive slate, a progressive political platform focused on long-term development, and was one of five members from the slate to be elected.

This is the third resignation of the quarter and the fifth resignation this year within ASUCSD. Last week, Off Campus Senator Leony Mijares and Advocate General Evan Jan resigned; both positions are still in need of permanent successors. Mijares resigned due to excessive complications, and Jan did not cite any reason for his resignation.

The Vice President of Campus Affairs is charged with the responsibilities of ASUCSD internal development, transitions, publicity, and campus-wide committee appointments. Campus Affairs has traditionally organized campus-wide events such Triton Dine and A.S. Grill and Chill.

A selection committee comprised of the ASUCSD President, Vice President of External Affairs, Financial Controller, two senators, and two associate vice presidents will be created within 15 days to begin the selection process to fill the position.

I will, to the best of my abilities, give all knowledge and resources of the position to my successor to ensure a smooth and effective transition,” said Arrollado, “I wish you all the best in your attempts to better the lives of students.”
