Carmel Valley Attorney Will Moore Announces Run for City Council

Carmel Valley attorney Will Moore has formally announced his intent to run for San Diego City Council District 1, which includes Carmel Valley, La Jolla, Torrey Pines & Hills, the Pacific Highlands, and UC San Diego.

Moore announced his candidacy for Council District 1 on January 7, following current city councilmember Barbara Bry’s announcement of her intent to run for mayor of San Diego in 2020. Since her announcement, two candidates have formally declared their candidacy for her seat.

Moore graduated from Georgia Tech in 1996. After graduating from college, he joined the Peace Corps and taught American-style business techniques in Senegal. Later, he returned to the States to pursue law, graduating from Columbia Law School in 2002.

Today, he runs a self-titled law firm in Sorrento Valley. The Moore firm specializes in assisting small businesses and startups with formation and litigation. In 2012, he was named one of San Diego’s top 40 Under 40 local leaders by San Diego Metropolitan.

Moore currently serves as the president of Carmel Valley’s Democratic Club. He also serves on the board of San Diego Leadership Alliance, a nonpartisan organization dedicated to developing progressive leadership in San Diego.

“2020 begins a new decade, and San Diego stands on the front line of national crises,” said Moore in his campaign video. “Climate, housing, jobs. With your help we can rise to that challenge.”

Moore is running against La Jolla firefighter Aaron Brennan, who confirmed his candidacy in an article published on January 9 by La Jolla Light.

UCSD College Democrats declined to comment and UCSD College Republicans did not respond when The Triton reached out.
