UCPD Declares Campus Safe After Violent Threats Left in Geisel Library

UC San Diego Police (UCPD) has declared the campus safe after being alerted to threats of violence posted in three women’s restroom stall doors in Geisel Library yesterday evening and this afternoon.

UCPD has decided to continue with the regular campus schedule after consulting with the campus Behavioral Threat Assessment and Management Team, local and federal law enforcement, and a threat assessment expert.

“The University takes every threat extremely seriously and UCSD Police have responded and are investigating,” Jeff Gattas, Chancellor Pradeep Khosla’s chief of staff, said to The San Diego Union-Tribune.

“The postings are generalized and not specific. UCSD has interviewed potential witnesses and is reviewing video in an attempt to identify the person or persons responsible. Once found, the university will seek prosecution to the fullest extent of the law.”

In response to the violent threats, UCPD has increased presence on campus. If you have information about the identity of the person(s) responsible, UCPD encourages you to contact 858-534-4357 or detective@ucsd.edu.
