Sun God Fashion

Wild prints, fluorescent colors, avant-garde makeup, and varying degrees of nudity—festival fashion gets a lot of attention for a reason. Some of the most innovative and truly creative looks appear at festivals. In the past ten years, the record-breaking attendance statistics for Coachella, Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC), and other popular music festivals have created a buzz around the fashion scene at these kinds of events. And, with the myriad of celebrities and influencers often in attendance, festival fashion has become just another runway show.

Every April, thousands of UC San Diego students step away from their studies to take part in a UCSD tradition: Sun God Festival.

Whether you are frustrated with changes made to the festival, avidly attend just to have a good time with friends, only go because you’re a fan of the artists, or couldn’t care any less about the event, the scorching, drunken, and deafening stupor of Sun God is a hallmark of the UCSD experience.

Many students agree that Sun God Festival has changed a lot in recent years and can often be a disappointing waste of students’ activity fees. All of this aside, Sun God is one of the few times UCSD students strip down their hoodies and step up their fashion game. Take a look at 2019 festival fashion: Sun God Edition!

This Sun God attendee’s bandana and cuffed Dickies coveralls combo is both functional and super cool. They’re paired with equally practical white high-top Converse shoes and an orange Fjällräven Kånken fanny pack.

Round sunglasses and an easy-breezy aloha shirt are a go-to pair for festivals and beyond.

Vibrant eyeshadow and a matching orange-and-black checkerboard button-up make a bold statement when combined with this attendee’s bright, blue-streaked hair.

Both looking cool and staying cool, this student rocks a yellow Adidas tank with a lifeguard hat and black sunglasses.

Classy and sophisticated with an added edge in the form of silver accessories—this attendee’s look is easy to replicate and modify to fit your own style.

This attendee’s mix of prints, colors, and textures is commendable; an abstract leopard shirt looks fresh next to a pink galaxy-printed fanny pack. Dark khaki cargo pants, a black belt, and glittery makeup complete the look.

Pulling off this all-white look effortlessly, this student’s outfit is both summer-y and sophisticated.
