Phum Viphurit To Headline Fall Y'all 2019

Associated Students Concerts & Events (ASCE) announced that Phum Viphurit will be this year’s annual Fall Y’all Festival headliner today. The 24-year-old Thailand native exploded in popularity last year with his song “Lover Boy,” which currently has over 45 million views on YouTube.

Phum Viphurit has been making waves internationally, both across Asia and the United States, racking up over 800,000 monthly listeners on Spotify and touring across the world during this past year. He stands out as a unique figure in Thailand—an artist with a rich, effortless voice and distinctly Western indie-pop sound inspired by artists such as Mac Demarco.

Aside from his typical romantic songs, Phum Viphurit also opens up about his personal struggles with mental health in his song “Hello Anxiety.” This display of lyrical range and exploration mirrors the breadth of his artistry. In the past, he has collaborated with a diverse set of artists, including Jenny & the Scallywags, a Thai folk band, and 88rising, a popular Asian American group, for a remix of “Lover Boy.”

With his refreshing sound and international reach, Phum Viphurit is an exciting addition to this year’s Fall Y’all Festival. The festival will also feature other artists that have yet to be announced, interactive booths, and free food from San Diego vendors.

The event will take place on Sunday, September 22 at 8:00 p.m. on RIMAC field. Admission is free for all UC San Diego undergraduate and graduate students who have a valid student ID card. Students are able to pre-register starting on the 22nd at 12:00 pm, outside of RIMAC Gym and Library Walk with their ID card.

Arun Dhingra is the Assistant Arts and Culture Editor of The Triton.
