Bay Area rapper Saweetie will be headlining the first annual HORIZON concert on Friday, January 24, at RIMAC Arena at 8:00 p.m.

Known for her songs, such as “Icy Grl” and “Focus,” the hip hop artist gained fame after clips of her singing on her Instagram account went viral in 2017.  In 2018, she released “Icy Grl” as her debut single accompanied by a music video. The track quickly gained popularity and was certified gold in 2018 for surpassing 500,000 sales in the U.S. On March 29, 2019 Saweetie released her second EP, titled Icy, which includes the track “My Type.” The song hit #1 on the Rhythm Radio charts and has over 100 million streams on Spotify.

HORIZON, hosted by AS Concerts & Events (ASCE), will include nationally touring artists and visual installations. The complete lineup of performers has not been announced.

HORIZON is a new event series that takes the place of Hullabaloo, an annual concert that included multiple musical acts. According to ASCE, Hullabaloo is no longer feasible as its usual location of Matthews Quad will be undergoing construction in the future. ASCE is planning on making HORIZON different compared to Hullabaloo by featuring immersive visual experiences in addition to musical performers. The event was designed as a way to unify UC San Diego students and enhance their college experience.

HORIZON will be free for all UCSD undergraduate students with valid ID. The first 4,000 students can register for HORIZON here until 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 22.
