Ella Chen Re-elected 2020-21 Editor-in-Chief

Ella Chen was re-elected as the Editor-in-Chief of The Triton for the 2020-21 school year by The Triton’s Editorial Board at the end of Winter Quarter 2020.

Chen is a third-year Biochemistry and Cell Biology major in Eleanor Roosevelt College who joined The Triton in Fall 2017 as a contributing writer to the News Section. After a year of writing for the paper, Chen became Assistant News Editor in Winter Quarter 2018 before becoming the News Section Editor in Spring Quarter 2018. The following year, she was elected to serve as the paper’s fourth Editor-in-Chief.

“I am blessed to have a community that supports me and gives me the opportunity to represent them and give them a voice. I’ve been a part of The Triton since the fall quarter of my first year here at UCSD, and I can’t imagine what my college experience would have been like without it,” explained Chen. “Being re-elected is my chance to continue giving back to the community that has fostered my growth as a leader and writer.”

In the coming year, Chen hopes to continue expanding the number of people involved in The Triton. She plans to promote outreach efforts to the student body including through social media, town hall sessions, and information panels. Ultimately, Chen wants the student body to see The Triton as a useful source of information that they can turn to for answers.

“As a young paper, we still feel growing pains, especially because we don’t have a print presence on campus. This year, I really want to focus on building a strong staff foundation to ensure future paper stability. That way, we have the manpower to write more stories and have more content output,” concluded Chen.
