Kate Zegans was re-elected as Managing Editor for the 2021-2022 school year by The Triton’s Editorial Board. The vote was held at the end of Winter Quarter 2021.

Zegans, a third-year Sociology major in Sixth College, has been with The Triton since Winter Quarter 2018. She previously served as the Arts and Culture Assistant Editor and Opinion Editor before transitioning into the Managing Editor position during Spring Quarter 2020.

Zegans will continue her role after a year of managing The Triton remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Though we did lose some writers last March, I am so grateful for the staff who remain, and the new members who have joined this year for producing quality writing under difficult circumstances,” Zegans said.

Nada Alami, the incoming Assistant Managing Editor, will also work alongside Zegans to publish more stories in the coming year and assist with back-end development.

“I know that Kate’s enthusiasm and passion for The Triton will impact us long after she leaves and I’m very excited to take in as much managerial knowledge as possible,” they said.

As the University prepares to return to in-person learning this coming fall, Zegans says she is planning to center more coverage on the student community.

“I am looking forward to meeting our new writers in person, and refocusing towards critical student-focused stories,” she said.
