Goody’s New Breakfast Burrito: A Review

Goody’s: A staple of UCSD since… well, since its establishment in 2009. For the student who can’t bring themselves to endure the collective 20-minute commute to and from Chipotle via bus, Goody’s is a godsend. Yes, this burrito dispensing monstrosity has, in the late hours of the night, saved the lives of many starving burrito bits.

The campus consensus is clear – the food is absolutely delightful. And while some were convinced that this Marshall dining hall was simply a one-trick pony (because, really, who’s ever bought one of their salads), it seems that they were very, very, wrong.

Expanding their reach, Goody’s has officially entered into the previously unknown territory: breakfast. Served up in their familiar assembly line, students can customize their very own breakfast burrito and watch as their creations come to life before their very eyes. And as if the added joys of A.M. burritos is not enough, Goody’s is also serving their new menu items during the hours before they close.

While offering the breakfast burrito classics, such as bacon, scrambled eggs, and sausage, Goody’s has continued with their “south of the border” theme, bringing items such as chorizo and pork machaca to the table. These ingredients can only be found at Goody’s — the now-incomparable Pines burrito doesn’t have these additions.

I personally got a chance to try the pork machaca burrito with egg whites; when mixed in with grilled red bell peppers, pico de gallo, and grilled onions, it perfectly held up to the standard that Goody’s has maintained over the years.

With their campus monopoly on all things burrito expanding, there’s no telling what other innovations will come from Goody’s — I’m hoping for churros.

Stop by from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on weekdays, or weekends from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. to stuff your stomach and check out the new breakfast burrito.
