Yoooooo! Week two of my event commentary and we’re still going strong. This train shows no signs of slowing and there’s nothing that can keep me from bringing you guys all the best events heading your way this upcoming week (save natural disaster, zombies, or being run down by a bike on the new campus bike paths)!
So, without further fanfare, let’s get to it:
Monday, Nov. 16th, 5:45pm @ PC Theatre
Alternative Breaks, a campus organization focused on cultivating socially active and globally conscious leaders within the UCSD community, will be hosting a night of thoughtful discussion regarding current hot topics in education (standardized testing, segregation with schools, and funding). The Night will screen a film and feature a guest lecturer from the UCSD Education Studies Department.
Tuesday, Nov. 17th, 8:00pm @ The Loft
Head over to the Loft and succumb to the sweet melodious sounds of these three UCSD graduate students. The trio features (as their descriptive band name suggests) Kyle Motl (bass), Tobin Chodos (piano), and Kjell Nordeson (drums and percussion). Chill out and get funky.
Wednesday, Nov. 18th, 12:00pm @ The Basement
Rob Fuller is a lecturer at The Rady School of Management where he teaches courses in Entrepreneurship, Global Business Strategy, Project Management, and Business Innovation. Gather with other similarly interested students to chat, have lunch, and pick his brain.

Wednesday, Nov. 18th, 4:30pm @ SME 149
Join the Literature department for another installment of their New Writing Series, this week featuring poet Lara Glenum. Lara is the author of four books of poetry (The Hounds of No, Maximum Gaga, Pop Corpse!, and All Hopped Up On Fleshy Dumdums), each focusing on the novelty of gore. In her writing, she “explores strategies of the grotesque as a portal to deconstructing normalizing discourses about the human body.”

Thursday, Nov. 19th, 8:00pm @ The Loft
Lostboycrow is a Los Angeles-based indie pop artist whose sound blends the sharp production of Purity Ring with the smooth voice of The Neighborhood. Check him out on Soundcloud and allow his dark accents to send your mind to enter into a deep trance.
Thursday, Nov. 19th, 11:00am @ Library Walk
Are you ever on Library Walk? Of course you are! Then, check out all the student vendors that will be present for the first ever Thrifty Thursday! Embrace your inner grunge hipster vibes and find yourself the perfect fedora, shawl, or knit tie!
Thursday, Nov. 19th, 5:00pm @ PC Ballroom West A
Do you never talk to your professors? Me neither.
But, through this event we can all change that. Gather in your best business casual and get to know the faculty at UCSD. Whether for you’re interested in networking or simply schmoohzing with the big boiz, this is the event for you.
Thursday, Nov. 19th, 5:00pm @ Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego
As if you thought this Thursday couldn’t be more packed with events, you’d be wrong. Both the Downtown and La Jolla locations will open to the public, free of charge. They will also be offering guided gallery tours beginning at 5:30pm. After a long day of mechanical engineering, give your right brain a chance to explore!
Friday, Nov. 20th, 3:00pm @ Matthews Quad
Celebrate the end of the week and drop by the quarterly Bear Garden for free food, free drink, games, and prizes! The line can get long so make sure to get there early!
Saturday, Nov. 20th, 11:00am @ Del Mar Racetrack
Enjoy free admission to the college tailgate party and free reggae music concerts, headlined by California artist Iration, by bringing your UCSD ID. The tailgate will feature live DJ’s, games, and food. On this special occasion, buses will be running from campus to the race tracks and back all day.
Saturday, Nov. 22th, 2:00pm @ The Ché Café
For all you vintage vinylphiles, drop by early for the record/zine/book swap! Still, if you’re not quite that hip but want to enjoy some awesome live music then wait for Marron, New Ruin, Dead Ghosts, and XhendriX who will be playing later that night! You can check out some of these awesome trippin’ punk bands on SoundCloud and Bandcamp.
