A fake bomb was found in a tunnel near Muir College yesterday, prompting the appearance of a bomb squad on campus.
The grenade was an inert training device. The Metro Arson Strike team arrived on campus, fencing off the area with caution tape. According to spokeswoman Mónica Muñoz from San Diego Fire-Rescue, the device seemed to have been dropped accidentally.
Although there were no evacuations, House Advisors in Muir College were sent an email advising all personnel to avoid the area between the Biology and Applied Physics and Mathematics Buildings on Friday. All other areas in Muir College were not closed off.
The Triton reached out to the UC Police Department, which declined to comment. This investigation is ongoing.
