COIN to Headline Rock 'N Roosevelt

COIN will be headlining Rock ’N Roosevelt on Friday, March 8, 2019, in Price Center West Ballroom, with Moontower and Silent Island as supporting acts.

COIN is a household name in the contemporary indie pop world—familiar, feel-good tunes include “Talk Too Much” or “Boyfriend.” Hailing from Nashville, Tennessee, the band organized its first rehearsals in a small dorm room back in 2012. COIN consists of Chase Lawrence on lead vocals and synths, drummer Ryan Winnen, Joe Memmel on lead guitar, Zachary Dyke as bassist, and touring bassist Matt Martin. Their most recent release, “I Want It All,“ maintains the integrity of the band’s jangly surf-rock hits.

Moontower is a three piece indie-electronic band which has toured with artists such as Bad Suns, YUNGBLUD, Colouring, and MAGIC GIANT. The band has an eccentric approach to their project, as they center their music around the story of an imaginary character named William Hollywood. Make sure to check out their newest release, “Long Hair.”

UCSD band Silent Island will also be opening for COIN. Their first single, “Waiting for the Sun,” was released earlier this month. Made up of students Neeco Beltran and Ian Hughes, the band aims for a “blend of beach/surf music and suburban skate punk” in their sound. Silent Island’s debut EP “Sorry About the Mess” is set to release in spring 2019.

Rock ‘N Roosevelt is free to all UC San Diego undergraduate students with a valid student ID. Doors open at 7:00 pm and the show starts at 7:30 pm.

Heather Lim is the Assistant Arts and Culture Editor of The Triton.

Correction: An earlier version of this article confused Silent Island with a different, Hungarian rock band of the same name. This article has been updated on March 1, 2019 at 3:30 p.m. accordingly.
