14 Things To Do This Weekend that Aren’t Sun God

Because getting drunk in the afternoon to stand under the hot sun with a bunch of inebriated strangers isn’t for everyone. Just because you won’t be bumping elbows with any Pink Guy cosplayers (which will be funny for the first hour and tragically sweaty for the next six) does not mean you can’t have a good time!

3. 35th Anniversary Federal ArtWalk

(Little Italy, 11:00 a.m.)

Celebrating its 35th anniversary, this ArtWalk will feature live music, surfboard auctions, lots of street food, and more. (FREE)

 

4. Feeding A Thousand Souls

(San Diego Museum of Art, 10:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.)

Learn about KOLAM, an art practice native to the woman of Tamil Nadu, India from guest lecturer Dr. Vijaya Nagarajan. ($5 with student ID)

 

5. The Office Bar Crawl and Trivia

(Moonshine Beach, 6:00 p.m.–12:00 a.m.)

Can’t find the Pam to your Jim on Tinder? Maybe you’ll have better luck here. The Office themed trivia, drinks, and cosplay will be abundant. ($20, 21+)

 

6. Panda Celebration

(Balboa Park Zoo, 11:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.)

The pandas are soon going back home to China! Celebrate their very last day here in San Diego.

 

7. Selena-themed Del Barrio Flea Market

Get some cool stuff at student-friendly prices while celebrating an icon.

 

8. Cover Story: The Art of Comic-Con 50

(Comic Con Museum, 10:00 a.m.–4 :00p.m.)

Celebrate the 50th anniversary of Comic Con because Sun God Festival is a joke.

 

9. Yoga in the City

(Downtown, 9:00 a.m.–10:00 a.m.)

If you’re the type of person who can wake up at 8:00 a.m. on a Saturday, you might also be the type of person who’s good at yoga. (FREE)

 

10. Rooftop Viewing of A Star is Born

(Gaslamp, 8:00 p.m.)

You know what’s more relaxing than Sun God? Shipping Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper under the stars on top of a goddamn building, that’s what. ($15.30 with student ID)

 

11. Disco Goth Nite at The Merrow

(University Avenue, 9:00 p.m.–1:00 a.m.)

Bring your smudged eyeliner and bell bottoms because it’s time to get lit like you’re sad in 1974. ($5)

 

12. Com Truise at the Music Box

(India Street, 9:00 p.m.)

The music is better than the band name. I promise. ($25, 21+)

 

13. See Fantastic Planet

(Landmark Cinema, 11:55 p.m.)

Bend your mind with this wild indie flick instead of consuming drugs. Side effects may vary.

 

14. INFEST Live at Che Café

(On Campus, 7:00 p.m.–10:00 p.m.)

If you insist on going to Sun God Festival, do it right. Bands INFEST, HEAT, Violencia, Adult Crash, and Drug Control will be playing at the Che Café after Sun God. This is the coolest thing to happen on campus in a while so hold onto your graphing calculators, Tritons. ($15)
